Welcome to the Department of Engineering

The Department of Engineering at Queen Mary, University of London is recognised internationally as having research strengths in both experimental and computational techniques in the disciplines of aeronautical / aerospace, mechanical and medical engineering. We also have a reputation for excellence in multidisciplinary research at the interface between Engineering and the Medicine / Life Sciences.

There is a long tradition of innovation in the Department. We were the first institution in the world to teach aeronautical engineering in 1907 and we also ran the first avionics programme in the UK. More recently we were amongst the pioneers when developing medical engineering at undergraduate level in the UK and in 2005 launched the first combined creative and technology based design programme in the UK entitled Design and Innovation. The Department is proud of the high calibre graduates that we produce and makes a special effort to provide a friendly and supportive environment.
